KULAI: A 22-year-old youth whose birthday is today and another passenger in a Perodua Bezza were killed in a road accident when the car was pinned between a lorry and a parked school bus.

The incident happened around 9.30am today when the victims, who were both in the car, were travelling along Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam heading towards Kelapa Sawit.

The accident, which took place at KM41 of the stretch, occurred when the car collided head-on with the lorry which was coming from the opposite direction.

According to Kulai police chief Superintendent Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, initial investigation revealed that the Perodua Bezza, which was driven by a Soh Yong Hau, 22, had apparently swerved into the opposite lane and collided with the lorry.

He said the collision caused Soh’s car to be dragged across the road and subsequently hitting a stationary school bus that was parked at the side of the road.

“The car was crushed between the bus and lorry, killing the driver and a female passenger seated in the front passenger seat, whose identity is still unknown as no identification document was found on her when the two bodies were extricated from the car,” he said.

A check on Soh’s MyKad revealed that today was his birthday.

Dzulkhairi said the bodies of both victims were sent to the Kulai Hospital for post mortem.

“The lorry driver was unhurt and his statement was recorded at the police station,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
