KUALA LUMPUR: With the belief that the strength of the community depends on the wellbeing of young families, Barisan Nasional (BN) promises to reduce the burden of young couples in starting a family.

This includes a Wedding Aid, an incentive to assist those young couples who wish to get married.

Young parents will also be provided with Child Aid for every child born through the Amanah Dana Anak Malaysia 2050 or Adam50, the amount of which will also be increased.

Adam50, which was introduced in the 2018 Budget, is a trust fund that allows a baby born on or after Jan 1, 2018 until 2022, to receive RM200 in units of Amanah Saham Bumiputera or AS1M.

The government will also introduce parenting courses to assist young parents to raise their children well.

As an effort to prevent children living at the People's Housing Project (PPR) and Housing Programme for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT) from getting involved in various social problems, BN pledges to provide training for the children in arts and sports.

The party said this was to help the children to build a career in the future while also allowing them to fill up their free time with activities.

Other initiatives and aim of the party:

• To provide incentive to employers that provide childcare centres at the workplace;

• To introduce a universal childcare policy through formulation of curriculum, nutritional diet, and training for professional caregiver;

• Nutrition Aid for children aged 6 months to 6 years for the hardcore poor;

• To increase tax exemption for parents’ medical expenses from RM5,000 to RM10,000;

• To provide a one off aid of RM1,500 to the children of the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) recipients who register at institutes of higher learning; and,

• To encourage women to gain additional income by simplifying the requirement for microcredit loans to run businesses part time.
