BAGAN DATUK: The Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat programme, which has been well received by the public, will be expanded to Sabah and Sarawak, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the programme, which offers daily necessities sold at lower than market price, is proof of the government’s concern in reducing the burden of the people due to the rising cost of living.

“The government will further expand this programme to Sabah and Sarawak and well as in more areas in the peninsula,” he said at the Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat carnival held in Simpang Tiga here today.

Present were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and Perak Human Resources, Youth and Sports executive committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya, who is also Rungkup assemblyman.

Currently, the Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat programme is held only in Peninsular Malaysia and parts of Sabah.

Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk Member of Parliament, said the people should be given the opportunity to buy daily necessities at cheap or reasonable prices.

Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat offers daily necessities at much cheaper prices, some up to 50 per cent lower than the market price.

At the programme, Zahid also auctioned off some items that were already at discounted prices.

These include fresh meat sold at RM10 a kilogramme from the already discounted price of RM20 per kg (market price RM30 per kg) and 10kg of rice from the discounted RM22 to RM10 (market price RM26).

Some 3,000 residents around Bagan Datuk visited the carnival which started at 8am to noon.
