KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) has rejected the allegation that it has received new applications from the armed forces to register their members as new voters or to open a new locality at the Paloh Camp in Johor in the 2017 fourth quarter Supplementary Electoral Roll (RDPT).

Its chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah, in a brief statement today, stressed that the allegation made by certain quarters that new voters among members of the military and their spouses were registered at the Paloh Camp from the Mahkota Camp in Sembrong parliament, is untrue.

“The allegations are totally untrue and the stakeholders can review the RDPT of the 2017 fourth quarter which is on display beginning today to Jan 30 at nearby exhibition venues,” he said.

It was reported previously that DAP’s Kluang members of parliament Liew Chin Tong, had challenged Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein to ensure there won’t be shifting of voters to areas such as Segamat, Hutan Melintang (Bagan Datuk), Bera, Pagoh, and Paloh (Sembrong) before the next general election.

Liew had also accused Hishammuddin of lying when he denied that an army camp was being built in Paloh, which is a state seat within the Sembrong constituency in Johor.
