KAJANG: Students of higher learning institutions can now apply for a concession card that entitles them to a 50 per cent discount on all rail and bus rides, Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said on Wednesday.

“This programme is based on the Rakyat Sentrik (people-centric) sentiment and will offer opportunities for undergraduate students to benefit from and enjoy the world-class infrastructure that the government has put in place.

“This will also encourage more students who commute between their home and higher learning institutions to take advantage of this public transportation mode,” said Idris when met by reporters at the launch of the concession card at the Stadium Kajang MRT station.

He said this also applies to those studying at polytechnics and community colleges.

The 50 per cent discount on fare rate per travel is applicable to RapidKL Bus, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), Monorail, and all MRT lines.

“I would like to urge all students to make use of these facilities as this will cultivate their practice towards leading a greener lifestyle,” said Idris.

As part of the launch ceremony, Idris boarded the MRT from the Tun Razak Exchange Station (TRX) as a symbolic gesture to demonstrate the convenience of public transport services meant to ease commuters’ daily travels.

He also presented concession cards to various higher learning institutions students who boarded the train with him from the TRX MRT station and alighted at the Stadium Kajang MRT station.

Students can apply for the concession card at the Central Market central bus station for the price of RM15 to enjoy all public transport facilities managed by Prasarana Sdn Bhd.
