SANDAKAN: Marine police arrested four people and seized two fishing trawlers laden with controlled goods believed to be headed to the Philippines.

The arrests and seizure of goods and trawlers, worth over RM421,000, were made yesterday evening when the marine patrol team spotted the suspicious trawlers in Pulau Berhala waters, off here.

Those nabbed are two Filipinos, aged 47 and 63, and two locals, aged 32 and 57.

State Marine Police commander Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yazib Abd Aziz said the controlled items, worth RM11,170.50, were kept in the storage compartment of both vessels.

The goods were two drums of RON95 petrol (400 litres), 60 jerry cans of RON95 petrol (1,800 litres), 36 cooking gas cylinders and 391 packets of cooking oil.

The two fishing trawlers are worth RM410,000.

Mohd Yazib said the case will be referred to the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry for further action under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
