SANDAKAN: An elderly woman died due to serious injuries after she was knocked down by a car while crossing the road at Mile 6, Jalan Labuk, here this morning.

The pedestrian was attempting to cross the busy road when a Perodua Kenari travelling from the direction of Taman Indah Jaya to Mile 10 hit her about 7.55am.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said the victim identified as Leong Siew Thai, 64, was rushed to the Duchess of Kent Hospital where she died while being treated at the emergency ward.

“Members of the public who saw the accident are urged to come forward to assist with police investigations.

“They can channel the information to traffic investigation officer Inspector Rodi Anak Wong at 089-242254,” he said.

Police were investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.
