KOTA BARU: A section of the iconic Siti Khadijah wet market here is undergoing renovation in an effort to transform the popular venue into a tourist attraction.

The RM400,000 renovation is part of the state government's efforts to boost tourism in Kelantan.

Siti Khadijah wet market's trader management head Hasnor Bakar said the section being revamped has been named “Taman Hijau” (Green Park).

"We chose the name because we want to maintain the area’s green environment," he said.

The area, located on the ground floor of the three-storey building, is large enough to accommodate 900 stalls which would sell various types of fruit.

Fruit seller Omar Ismail, 45, said the renovation is a good move, as it will make the market more beautiful.

"The changes will bring many positive changes, especially in term of visitors," he added.
