MANTIN: A severe storm damaged 26 houses at several residential areas and villages here on Saturday, with strong winds blowing the roofs off of some homes.

MCA Youth chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon said damage incurred in the 4pm incident includes broken windows and doors.

The damaged houses are located in Taman Desa Mantin, Kampung Mantin Dalam, Kampung Sungai Jai and Kampung Sungai Machang Hilir.

"It was a gloomy Hari Raya for the Malay families who were affected by this incident.

“For now, we are mobilising all available aid and the Kampung Baru Mantin multi-purpose hall has been opened to residents as a temporary shelter because their homes also do not have power supply,” Chong said.

The Welfare Department, the Fire and Rescue Department, the police and Tenaga Nasional Berhad are also extending a helping hand.

Chong said repair works are ongoing and will be completed soon.
