NILAI: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has denied a news report by The Associated Press that Malaysia's most wanted terrorist Dr Mahmud Ahmad has been killed in southern Philippines.

"Dr Mahmud is still alive and fighting in Marawi (on Mindanao island)," said the IGP, who had just returned from a conference in the Philippines.

"We are still trying to determine the exact number of Malaysians involved in the terror activities in Marawi," Khalid told reporters after handing out Aidilfitri contributions to some 127 underprivileged Muslims at Masjid Nurul Iman in Kampung Gebok here.

He added that to date, only four has been confirmed killed.

As for speculations that many of the terrorists presently in Marawi are Malaysians, he corrected the figure is actually smaller and probably less than 20.

Commenting on the collaboration between the police and the newly established court for sexually abused children, Khalid said the police already has its own task force to handle and expedite such cases.

"We have a specific team, who specializes in child psychology to help extract information from these minors. And we conduct it at a child care centre, in a more suitable environment for these children to express themselves.

"I totally agree with statement by the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) that such cases should be resolved within a year.

Our very own KPI (key performance indicator) is to resolve crime within three months.

"(Hence) we will re-look into our SOP (standard operating procedures) to help hasten case resolution for reported sexually abused children."
