KOTA BARU: Some 120 underprivileged children had an unforgettable time today when they were treated to a shopping spree for Hari Raya clothes at the Mydin Mall in Kubang Kerian here.

The children – comprising kids from poor families and orphans – were from several districts in the state, including Kota Baru, Machang, Jeli and Tumpat.

Also included in the exciting affair were several students from the Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Quran Ismailiah in Banggol Chicha, Pasir Mas.

The event was organised by the Persatuan Orang Kota Baru (POKB) and the Malaysian Malay Vehicle Importers and Traders Association (Pekema).

Pekema secretary Datuk Nik Izani Nik Ibrahim said the event was the association's way of helping underprivileged children and orphans during the festive season.

He said each child was allocated RM150 to buy their clothes and shoes.

"This is an annual programme and has been carried out for the last three years. It is not organised only in Kelantan but also Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Penang," he said.

Also present was POKB president Datuk Sheikh Ahmad Dusuki Sheikh Mohamad.

One of the lucky shoppers was Danish Rayyan Halim, 9, from SK Mata Ayer in Pulai Chondong, Machang.

Danish, who lost his mother Normadiah Ariffin in an accident last year, said he was happy to be given the opportunity to choose his own clothes.

"My father is an odd-job worker and it is difficult for him to buy clothes for all his seven children this Hari Raya," said Danish, who is the youngest child.
