JOHOR BARU: Former deputy MCA Youth chief Datuk Yap Chik Dong died of a heart attack last night at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. He was 71.

Yap had previously served as Tangkak assemblyman for five terms and was a former Johor MCA Youth chief.

MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Yap’s death was a big loss to the nation and the community.

“I received the terrible news last night and will be offering my condolences to his family today,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Wee, who is minister in the prime minister’s department, said he will visit Yap’s family in Kampung Baru Tangkak 2, in Tangkak, to pay his last respects.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister and Ledang member of parliament Datuk Hamim Samuri also visited Yap’s family today.

“Paying my last respects to the late Datuk Yap Chik Dong, who is former Tangkak assemblyman and a former MCA division chief,” Hamim said on Facebook.
