SANDAKAN: A 71-year-old man was arrested for having in possession 1,998 counterfeit watches of various brands in a raid here, yesterday.

The marine police and enforcement officers from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) carried out the raid on an apartment unit in town centre here following a public tip-off.

State marine police commander Assistant Commissioner Mohd Yazib Abdul Aziz said the team searched the third floor apartment situated at Jalan Pryer and seized the fake wristwatches worth RM76,945.

The brands include Casio, Adidas, Puma, Rolex, Rado, Citizen, Ray Ban, and Oakley.

“We have also identified and arrested the owner, who is a local. The man and all seizures were referred to the KPDNKK for further probe under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011,” he said.

In the joint operation, 13 marine personnel and four KPDNKK officers were involved in the raid that took place at 6.45pm.
