JOHOR BARU: Police have recorded statements from family members, friends and doctors in relation to 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi, who died on Wednesday, weeks following alleged beatings administered by an assistant warden at his tahfiz dormitory here.
Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat was reluctant to disclose how many people were called in by police to have their statements recorded, but he stressed to the New Straits Times that statements from each party could facilitate police’s investigations into the case.
"We have yet to review all the school's closed circuit television (CCTV) recordings. We will be getting to that.
"We are also waiting for the post-mortem report on the boy, which will be ready only in two weeks’ time," he added.
Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Executive Committee chairman, Datuk Ayub Rahmat, confirmed that the post-mortem, which was conducted on Wednesday at the Johor Forensics Department of the Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI), is expected to be ready in two weeks.
Thaqif, who had fallen into a coma after his badly-injured legs were amputated, was laid to rest early today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had called on the investigation into his death to be accelerated.
Najib also tasked Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, to visit with the grieving family at the Johor Forensic Department of the HSI.
While there, Asyraf Wajdi allowed Thafiq's father, former Selangor state footballer-turned businessman, Mohd Ghadaffi Mat Karim, 43, to use his handphone to speak to Najib, who conveyed his condolences.
