KUALA LUMPUR: A comprehensive report on the fatal express bus accident in Pagoh, Johor, last Dec, will be released for public consumption once it is endorsed by the Cabinet, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said today.

He told the Dewan Negara that the report on the incident, which resulted in 14 deaths and 16 injuries, had already been published and tabled, and was accepted by the Cabinet on March 1.

Liow said the comprehensive analysis undertaken by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) covered four main aspects, namely road conditions and the surrounding environment, bus design and manufacture, bus operations, and traffic enforcement.

“Once (the report) is endorsed on the Cabinet’s end, we will release it to the public.

“Improvements based on the (four) aspects (will be recommended), and the government is committed to taking measures to improve the safety of bus services in the country, (and to learn lessons) from road accidents,” he said in reply to a question from Senator Datuk Yahaya Mat Ghani @Abbas.

Yahaya had asked about measures being taken by the government to ensure passenger safety, in light of frequent and serious express bus accidents in the country.
