KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has closed two unlicensed entertainment venues during an operation, "Operasi Bersepadu Premis Hiburan" (Integrated Operation Against Entertainment Premises), on Jalan Tun H S Lee and Jalan Metro Pudu 2 last night.

The operation resulted in summonses for 43 patrons and staff for violating Syariah codes. 

In a post on its official social media page, DBKL said the operation was carried out by the DBKL enforcement division together with the DBKL Licensing and Business Development division Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) and the Federal Territories National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). 

"Immediate closure actions were taken against two premises under Section 17 of the Entertainment Act (WPKL) 1992 for offences related to carrying out entertainment activities and selling alcoholic beverages without valid licence." 

All business-related items from the premises were confiscated. 

"DBKL also issued compound notices under Small Laws 3(1), Licensing of Trade, Business, and Industry (WPKL) 2016, and UUK 22(1)(d), along with Notification of Offence notices under Section 4(1)(a) of the Entertainment Act (WPKL) 1992 for operating without a licence.

"Summonses were issued to 43 individuals, comprising 16 men and 27 women, under Section 19 of the Syariah Offences Act 1997 for consuming alcoholic beverages and intoxication. 

"Additionally, seven individuals were detained under Section 3(1) of the Drug Addicts Act 1983 for allegedly consuming illegal substances," it said.

Confiscated items were taken to the DBKL store on Jalan Lombong, Taman Miharja Cheras for record-keeping and documentation.
