KUALA LUMPUR: Two men, including one with a criminal record, have been arrested by the police to assist police investigations into the use of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia's pictures on a four-wheel-drive vehicle during the campaigning for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat by-election.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, in a statement today, said both suspects, in their 60s, were arrested in an area in Kuala Kubu Baharu yesterday.

Ahmad Faizal said police also seized the green-coloured vehicle allegedly used by the suspects in the case.

The arrest, he said, was made following a report lodged by a man at the Kuala Kubu Baharu police station at 6.18pm on May 4 over action by certain quarters disrespecting the King of Malaysia by using his pictures on a vehicle along with flags of Pakatan Harapan (PH)

"Preliminary investigation showed the two men were in the green-coloured four-wheel-drive vehicle with pictures of the King of Malaysia and the Prime Minister as well as PH flags.

"An investigation paper has been opened under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.

"Acting on information, a team from the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters arrested two men and seized the vehicle used in the case," he said.

Ahmad Faizal said the two men have been remanded for three days starting today until Tuesday to facilitate investigation into the case.

"One of the suspects has a history of being arrested under Section 225 of the Penal Code for resistance or obstruction to the lawful apprehension of another person."

Earlier, it was reported that PH and Perikatan Nasional have both cried foul over the use of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim's pictures on a vehicle, which was allegedly being driven around here yesterday.

Apart from His Majesty's pictures, the vehicle was also decorated with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's photo, as well as PH and Johor state flags.

PH's election director for Kuala Kubu Baharu Ng Sze Han denied that the SUV was one of its own.
