KUALA LUMPUR: The police are actively pursuing an individual who verbally abused and threatened a toll booth operator at the Segambut Toll Plaza on the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (Duke) last Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa disclosed that the incident occurred at 11.15pm, prompting a report from the 20-year-old victim.

"The incident unfolded when the suspect, driving a Honda Civic, was unable to pass the toll gate due to insufficient balance on his Touch 'n Go card," Rusdi explained during a press conference at the Cheras district police headquarters.

He added, "The victim advised the man to make payment using a debit card, but the situation escalated, as seen in the video footage."

Rusdi confirmed that the owner of the Honda Civic, a 60-year-old local man, has been identified through a vehicle registration check, and efforts are underway to locate the suspect.

"The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955," he said.

Previously, a video went viral on social media depicting a man hurling insults at a toll booth operator after experiencing difficulty reloading his Touch 'n Go card due to insufficient funds.

The incident reportedly stemmed from the motorist's frustration upon learning that the Touch 'n Go lanes did not accept cash payments for card reloads.
