KUALA LUMPUR: The suspect in a shooting at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is expected to be charged soon, says Selangor police chief, Datuk Hussein Omar.
"We will seek an extension of his remand order for seven more days," Hussein said, adding the man's existing remand order expires on Monday.
Hussein also revealed that the suspect underwent a medical check-up at the private hospital in Kelantan a week before the incident as he planned to work in Saudi Arabia.
He was arrested while collecting his results at the hospital earlier this week.
Hussein said police were close to completing their probe and that to date, they have recorded statements from 27 people including the suspect.
"The primary motive is a personal issue," he told reporters after paying his respects to former Inspector-General of Police Tun Mohammed Haniff Omar who passed away this morning.
It was previously reported that the 38-year-old suspect planned to flee to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
In the incident last Sunday, the man fired two shots, believed to have been aimed at his wife, at KLIA.
One of the shots hit his wife's bodyguard. The victim is being treated in hospital.
The suspect is believed to have bought the gun he used from a Thai national for RM5,000.
