JOHOR BARU: Police yesterday arrested 46 suspects in a statewide operation against illegal online gambling and lottery betting.

Johor police chief Commissioner M. Kumar said officers from the Criminal Investigation Department raided 46 illegal gambling premises in the state under Op Dadu Khas.

The 46 suspects, aged 18 to 64, included an Indonesian woman.

Police seized RM6,935, printers, 46 mobile phones and 102 pieces of suspected betting chits in the raids.

Kumar said police would work with other agencies to ensure the termination of business licences and electricity supply of illegal gambling dens.

The case is being probed under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for accepting unauthorised public lottery bets and operating gaming premises illegally.

This year, police have conducted 770 raids under Op Dadu, with 1,102 arrested and RM291,780 seized.

"We are committed to eradicating illegal gambling in Johor, including unauthorised gambling machines, public lotteries and illegal betting," Kumar said.

Those with information on illegal gambling or criminal activities should call the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095 or their operations room at 07-221 2999.
