KUANTAN: Five men who allegedly provoked and threatened to hit a customer outside a fast food restaurant chain in Sungai Isap here on April 12 have been detained for further questioning.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the five suspects aged between 27 and 43 years old were detained on Saturday and yesterday.

"The complainant who had gone to the outlet with his family had lodged a police report on April 13 claiming a group of suspects had provoked him and later threatened to hit him. Police picked the suspects at various locations in Kuantan.

"The suspects are probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for intimidation and they have been remanded till April 17," he said when contacted today.

Wan Mohd Zahari said police have interviewed the 40-year-old victim, several witnesses who were at the outlet and gathered the closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage to assist their investigations.

In the late night incident, the suspects, who were allegedly campaigning to boycott the fast food outlet, had arrived in a four- wheel-drive vehicle attempting to provoke customers.

It is learnt that there was no physical contact between the victim and the suspects, but they appeared furious as the victim had gone to dine at the outlet and threatened to hit him with a helmet.
