TANAH MERAH: Police yesterday arrested a man with RM1,000 worth of firecrackers and fireworks at Taman Kota Harmoni here.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the 35-year-old man was arrested at Kampung Kusial Bharu, about two km from Taman Kota Harmoni.

A high-speed chase between the police and the suspect ensued after a police patrol car, which was carrying out checks under Ops Selamat 22 at Taman Kota Harmoni, spotted a car making an illegal U-turn at the area at about 3pm.

"Seeing the police's car, the driver decided to speed off the vehicle. The police patrol car then chased the car and managed to corner his vehicle at Kampung Kusial Bharu," he said.

He added police found a box containing various types of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM1,000 following inspection of the suspect's car.

"Further checks found that his driving licence and also the car's road tax were expired," he said.

He said the suspect was arrested to facilitate police investigation into the case.
