KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation paper (IP) involving Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh is expected to be completed within seven days after the police recorded his statements on Friday (April 5).
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the police was in the process of finalising its investigation into the case before submitting the IP to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for the next course of action.
"At the moment, the police, through the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are finalising our investigations under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"We (police) expect this IP to be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office, several days after the end of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday," he said.
Razarudin said the IP is expected to be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor on April 15.
"In completing this investigation process, the police also require statements from relevant witnesses to strengthen the facts for further action, and this also takes some time.
"All recommendations for further action will be decided by the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office, whether to prosecute Dr Akmal or gather additional facts," he said.
Dr Akmal, who is also the Merlimau assemblyman, was previously detained upon landing at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Sabah, by a team of police from the Bukit Aman Classified Crimes Investigation Unit.

Previously, Dr Akmal, in several of his speeches, openly advocated a boycott campaign against KK Mart convenience stores, which faced issues regarding the sale of stockings bearing the word "Allah".
