MANJUNG: An elderly man was charged with the murder of his brother and sister-in-law using a sickle last week, in the magistrate's court today.

The accused, Chee Kooi Heng, 63, nodded after the charges were read out by an interpreter in front of Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai.

According to the charge, the oil palm farmer is accused of having killed Chee Khoi Sia, 74, and Koh Eng Lai, 70, in an oil palm plantation at Lot 3332 Mukim Pengkalan Baharu, near Pantai Remis, here between 3pm and 3.30pm, on March 5.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Hairol Jemain appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by lawyer, CC Keong.

Earlier, Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said a property dispute is believed to have led to the incident.
