KUALA LUMPUR: Paris-based veteran singer Dato Shake's elder sister Siti Faridah Sheikh Ahmad died of an illness on Tuesday.

Shake or Datuk Sheikh Abdullah Sheikh Ahmad, 73, shared the sad news on Instagram yesterday.

"My beloved sister Siti Faridah Sheikh Ahmad passed away on Feb 13. May God bless her and place her amongst the righteous," said Shake in his post.

Netizens expressed their heartfelt condolences to Shake and his family and they included singer Ning Baizura.

"Deepest condolences Dato Shake and family. May your sister rest in peace," said Ning.

Shake began his singing career in the 1970s and was the first Malaysian recording artiste to penetrate the French music market.

Shake, who was the principal of the 13th and final season of reality talent show Akademi Fantasia is best known for his hit songs such as Umi, Anugerah Dari Kegagalan and Kau Bunga Ku.
