PASIR PUTEH: A jobless man was arrested for possessing 600 methamphetamine pills at Kampung Banggol Pak Esah here last night.

District police chief, Superintendent Zaizul Rizal Zakaria said the 21-year-old man was detained near a padi field in the village at about 9.10pm.

"A police party from the district's narcotics criminal investigation division went to the area following public tip-offs.

"They then spotted the suspect and immediately aproached him. The officers later discovered the pills.

"The pills, which are locally known as Yaba pills, and worth about RM6,000, are believed to have been smuggled from the neighbouring country," he said.

He added police also seized a Honda Civic from the suspect.

"The suspect who is a local, also tested positive for drug use.

"He has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigations into the case," he added.

Zaizul said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
