KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation paper against Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as blogger Chegubard, and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's former political secretary Muhammad Zahid Md Arip.

This, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, was over their statements regarding a new Mercedes Benz car being used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said investigations were being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

"This is in regard to their statement regarding the new car being used by the prime minister, which was actually given to him by His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

"We are completing the investigation papers and will call them to assist investigations soon," he said.

It was reported recently that Anwar had been spotted arriving in Parliament in a black Mercedes bearing the registration plate VEV1158.

Checks later showed that the vehicle is registered to the King.
