KUALA LUMPUR: Police rescued a woman and a young girl suspected of being forced into prostitution during a raid on a shop lot in Banting yesterday.

Kuala Langat district police chief Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor@Saleh said the operation was carried out at 3pm.

Police found the premises had been modified and converted into four rooms using curtains.

He said the premises had been conducting prostitution activities for about two months, targeting foreign nationals as customers.

"During the raid, we arrested a local woman who acted as a pimp and two Indonesian women who worked as prostitutes.

"Police also rescued a 25-year-old local woman and an 11-year-old girl, suspected of being forced into prostitution," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Ridhwan said the police also found an 11-month-old baby girl, who was the child of the 25-year-old woman, and a 4-year-old boy.

"The status of the boy and the 11-year-old girl is still under investigation," he said.

He said all the suspects were taken to the Telok Datok magistrate's court in Banting for remand, and the case was being investigated under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

The section carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or a minimum of five years' imprisonment and caning upon conviction.
