KUALA LUMPUR: Four restaurant workers were fined RM1,000 each by the Magistrate's Court here today for their involvement in a recent brawl at a fast food joint in Bukit Bintang.

Magistrate M.S Arunjothy meted out the sentence against Mohamad Raziman, Muhammad Nur Hafizuddin Ahmad Kasim, Aidil Idham Kassim and Mohammad Taufiq Muhammad Azman afte they pleaded guilty to the charges.

They were ordered to serve a month's jail if they failed to pay the fine.

According to the charges, the accused, all aged 21, as well as six others at large, had assembled with the purpose of fighting and committing violence at a fast food restaurant in di Bukit Bintang at 8.20pm on Feb 4.

The charge under Section 147 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same act, carries a maximum punishment of two years' jail, a fine, or both.

All four paid their fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Hafiezah Mohamed Fauzi had earlier asked the court to mete out a suitable punishment to serve as a deterrent against the accused.

However, counsel Ashraf Fahmi Abdul Aziz, who represented the four, asked for a lighter sentence, arguing that his clients were supporting their respective families and had extended their cooperation to the authorities in the course of the investigation.

Meanwhile, another accused, 32-year-old Obaidullah Mohseni, who is an Afghan, pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

However, Arunjothy did not grant bail to the accused and set March 22 for re-mention.

The brawl went viral after a video clip of the fighting was shared widely on social media.

Video footage of the brawl showed several restaurant workers exchanging kicks and blows with a man.
