KUALA LUMPUR: Police have completed an investigation over threats made against lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid following her filing of a petition against provisions in the Kelantan Syariah Criminal Code.

City police chief, Datuk Seri Allaudeen Abdul Majid said police received three reports from Nik Elin and have completed one probe, which has been been sent to Attorney General Chambers (AGC) for further action.

"The three police reports have been investigated and classified under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"One investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney General's Office for further instructions, while two other investigation papers are still under police investigation,"

Allaudeen also said the police have requested assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission(MCMC) to identify the owners of social media accounts involved.

Police advise the public not to make statements with threatening content on social media, and failure to comply may result in action under Section 507 of the Penal Code, punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, punishable by a fine not exceeding RM 50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both, against those involved suspects.

Yesterday, it was reported that Nik Elin has received several death threats over her constitutional challenge to provisions under Kelantan Syariah law.

Nik Elin said she recently filed three police reports regarding these threats.
