KLUANG: A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by an multi-purpose vehicle while crossing a dark stretch of road at KM63 of Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam, here, last night.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said Son Ah Kow was in the middle of the federal road at 9.05pm, when the MPV crashed into him.

He said the stretch of road was unlit.

The senior citizen died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

Bahrin said the driver, 46, was travelling from Johor Baru to Air Hitam.

The case is classified under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The offence is punishable with a maximum of 10 years' jail and RM20,000 fine.

He reminded motorists to be careful while driving in low-light conditions.
