PASIR PUTEH: A total of 111 undocumented migrants were arrested in a joint operation in Tok Bali and Semerak yesterday.

The operation was carried out between the Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Immigration Department and the state National Anti-Drug Agency.

State MMEA director Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi said the operation was aimed at nabbing illegal immigrants as well as those involved in the drug menace.

The operation involved 78 officers from the three agencies and ended at 5am.

"The operation was conducted at fishing landing jetties in Tok Bali and Semerak after we received information on the influx of foreigners working on the fishing vessels."

During the checks, 100 of them were found entering the country without valid travel documents. These 100 foreigners comprised those from Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand.

The remaining 11 are Thais who were nabbed for being involving in drug activities."

Erwan said all of them were handed over to the Immigration Department and police for further action.

It is learnt the Immigration Department identified several other hotspots for foreigners in Pasir Puteh and is expected to carry out similar operations soon.
