SEREMBAN: Four people, including a police officer, suspected of being involved in the kidnapping of a businessman here two weeks ago have been released on police bail.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Hatta Che Din said investigations spearheaded by federal police in Bukit Aman were still ongoing.

"Seeing that one of the suspects involved is an officer, a public servant, therefore all and any aspects have to be investigated by police.

"Three of the suspects who are Bangladeshi nationals that were apprehended during the raid are now being detained by the Immigration Department for not having any valid documents," he said when contacted.

It was reported recently that a police officer was among seven who were detained on suspicion of being involved in the kidnapping of a Bangladeshi man in an incident in Bandar Seri Sendayan.

The victim was kidnapped because he apparently had a debt of RM70,000 pertaining to an immigration matter.

The police officer suspected of being involved is said to be an inspector who works in another state. He is believed to have assisted the six other suspects who are Bangladeshi nationals, including two who kidnapped the victim on Jan 10.
