KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested two former local authority enforcement officers on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes worth RM18,000.

According to sources, the two male suspects in their 30s, were masquerading as Bukit Aman officers. They were soliciting bribes in return for not taking action in a money laundering case against the victim.

The source said that the first suspect was arrested at 5.10pm yesterday , while the second suspect was arrested when he appeared to give his statement at the MACC Kuala Lumpur office at 8.57pm last night.

"The suspect went to the victim's office in Kuala Lumpur and told the victim there was an MACC case against the victim involving an offence under the Money Laundering Act.

"A day after that, the suspect went to the victim's office and asked for a bribe of about RM18,000 in return for closing the investigation on the case," said the source.

The victim is believed to have handed over RM10,000 in cash to the suspect and informed the suspect he would hand over the remainder RM8,000 on Monday before making a report to MACC on Sunday.

Kuala Lumpur MACC director, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Husin confirmed the arrest when contacted. He said the case is being investigated in accordance with Section 16 (a) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.
