SUNGAI PETANI: Two men and a woman today claimed trial at the Sessions Court 1 here to charges of illegal deposit taking amounting to RM49,386 three years ago.

The accused, Suchart Ee, 57, a former company director, along with his wife serving as the financial clerk, Kamontip Chu, 49, and Mohammad Nahur Azad Ibrahim, 41, also a former company director, were charged with three counts of receiving deposits from an individual since March 2020.

According to the charges, all three accepted deposit amounts of RM11,385, RM6,000, and RM15,000 on March 9, June 15, and Sept 30, 2020, respectively, from an individual without a valid license under Section 10 of the Financial Services Act 2013.

They are alleged to have committed the offence at Jalan Perdana Height 1/10, Perdana Height Sungai Petani.

The charges were framed under Section 137(1) of the Financial Services Act 2013, punishable under Section 137(2) of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The accused may face a fine of not more than RM50 million or imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Zulfadzly Hassan prosecuted, while all three accused were represented by Lawyer Ummi Kalthum Zakaria.

Judge Roslan Hamid granted a RM20,000 bail for each accused with a surety.

He also ordered them to report to the nearest district police headquarters every month and surrendering their passports until the end of the trial.

Earlier today, all the accused claimed trial in Sessions Court 2 here for receiving a deposit of RM17,000 without a valid license on Nov 10, 2020, from the same individual.

Judge Azman Abu Hassan set bail at RM10,000 each with a local surety, and the court fixed January 16 for document submission.
