SHAH ALAM: A 32-year-old Australian man who went viral for urinating on a pillar at a supermarket in Subang Jaya was fined RM100 by the magistrate's court here, today.

Magistrate Sasha Diana made the ruling after Chih Peter pleaded guilty to the offence today.

According to the charge sheet, the accused is alleged to have behaved indecently by urinating in public with the intention of provoking the anger of others near a parking area of a shopping mall at 10.51pm on Nov 16.

He was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Offences Act 1955 (Act 336).

Earlier, lawyer R. Morhaneraj who appeared for the accused pleaded for a minimum sentence and said his client was compelled to urinate at the scene as he could not hold it any longer and go to the toilet in time.

"However, he was not aware that he was being recorded.

"My client has learned a lesson from this incident and has promised not to repeat such a mistake," he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Annur Athirah Amran asked the court to impose a deterrent sentence.

Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat yesterday said the suspect was detained around 11.15am at Subang Jaya district police headquarters.

He said a police officer stationed at the USJ8 police station came across a 50-second viral video capturing the man's actions on Sunday.

In the video, there was a conversation between the recorder and the suspect, where the latter mentioned the availability of a restroom and the suspect only apologised before leaving.
