ALOR STAR: Police have launched an investigation into an alleged investments scam pulled off by a bogus "Datuk" with losses amounting to RM1 million.

Kota Setar acting police chief Superintendent Syed Basri Syed Ali said five police reports have been lodged against the man, who has been using a bogus title.

"The Kota Setar police's Commercial Crime Investigation Department are investigating an alleged scam involving fake business partnership with losses amounting to RM1 million.

"We have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the suspect," he said in a statement.

Police are now looking for one Mohamd Jaylani Sheikh Mohamad, 44, whose last known address is Taman Citra here, as they believe he can shed some light onto the case.

Police have classified the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
