KUANTAN: An eight-year-old boy died when he was hit by an MPV while cycling in a housing estate in Kampung Padang Jaya 2 here, yesterday afternoon.
Muhammad Azzim Imni Mohd Faizal, a second year student at Kampung Padang National School, died at the scene.
Kuantan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, said based on reports, the accident involved a Toyota Innova MPV and a bicycle at 6.45pm.
He stated the preliminary report found that the 33-year-old female driver was passing through Lorong Kampung Padang Jaya 14 towards Jalan Kampung Padang Jaya 8 to Sungai Lembing.
"The MPV was moving straight, suddenly the victim, who was riding a bicycle, crossed from the left lane to the right side of the road to return to his home in Lorong Kampung Padang Jaya 15.
"Due to the distance being too close, the MPV driver did not have time to avoid and hit the victim. As a result of the accident, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement today.
He said the victim's body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here for autopsy.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he stated.
