PETALING JAYA: A 49-year-old labourer was slapped with a RM5,000 fine at the magistrate's court, here, after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting his 24-year-old niece.
Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha also ordered the man to serve four months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
Earlier, the man pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his niece by touching her, kissing her on the cheek and exposing his private parts to her at a house in Taman Medan, here, around 8.30pm on July 15.
His charge was framed under Section 354 of the Penal Code that carries maximum a maximum imprisonment of 10 years, fine or whippings, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
The facts of the case showed that the man approached the victim on her left side while she was cutting onions in the kitchen of the house.
The accused then sexually assaulted her by touching her back, kissing her and exposing his genitals.
Before sentencing, deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal suggested for the court to order fair punishment.
However, the accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lighter sentence to be meted out.
