MELAKA: The mystery behind an employee's absence from work was resolved when his body was found in a pool of blood at the workers' dormitory on the third floor of a shophouse in Taman Merdeka Jaya Wednesday afternoon.

The 32-year-old victim, a Nepalese, was believed to have been killed by his colleague before the body was found in a toilet.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said police received information on the discovery of a man's body at 6.42pm and sent a team of police personnel and forensics team to the scene.

He said the victim, who worked as a restaurant assistant, did not show up for work on the day of the incident, prompting his employer to go to the workers' dormitory to look for him.

"The body was found in the toilet at the premises, and we also found a piece of wood and a telephone cable near the victim's body.

"Following our checks, we managed to track down the suspect, a 20-year-old Nepalese, at a rest stop in Pedas Linggi, about 11.30pm," he said.

He said police investigation also revealed that the victim and the suspect had known each other and were colleagues for three months.

"Preliminary interrogation revealed that the motive behind the incident was that the suspect was upset and held a grudge against the victim. He claimed the deceased always borrowed and stole his money, and the victim also took his sweet time to open the dorm door."

Christopher said the suspect has been remanded for seven days until July 19.
