BESUT: A man has been detained yesterday to facilitate investigations regarding a case where a senior citizen was robbed and injured in a house here on Sunday.

Besut District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad said that the man who is in his thirties was detained at Kampung Bukit Kenak in Jertih at around 10am, yesterday.

He said that as a result of further, detailed inspection that was carried out, the suspect tested positive for the drug Methamphetamine and he also has a prior record for drug abuse.

"Police also confiscated cash worth RM500 and a couple of red pills suspected of being drugs.

"The suspect will be remanded from tomorrow (May 30) to facilitate investigations," he said in a statement last night.

Rozak said that the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for intentionally inflicting injuries while carrying out the act of robbery.

He said that before this, a 68-year-old woman had come forward to lodge a police report that she was injured after she was robbed in her house on Sunday.

"The victim lives on her own in the house and has problems, issues with her hearing and eyesight because of age and the suspect attacked her from behind by covering her mouth and then pushing her until she fell down. The victim ended up breaking a few teeth and injuring her right hand in the fall.

"The suspect is believed to have entered the victim's house through the front door which was not locked. It is believed that the victim has incurred losses of about RM2,150 in cash," he said.
