KUANTAN: A teacher not only lost all of her savings but also ended up with debt from a personal loan she took after falling prey to a scammer posing as a policeman from the Bukit Aman police headquarters.

The 36-year-old victim's nightmare started when she received a phone call from the suspect on May 10.

State police chief Datuk Yahaya Othman said the suspect tricked the victim into believing that she was involved in a human trafficking syndicate.

"Panicked by the situation, the victim followed the instructions given by the suspect by transferring all of her savings into a bank account.

"The victim also surrendered the username as well as password of her mobile banking application to the suspect.

"She also took RM130,000 in personal loans as per instructions of the suspect," Yahaya said in a statement today.

The case, said Yahaya, is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
