KLUANG: An unemployed man has been charged at the magistrate's court here with four counts of trafficking drugs weighing 43.17kg, worth RM2.16 million.

The accused, Ng Kah Jun, 27, nodded to indicate that he understood the charges, which were read by a court interpreter in Mandarin before judge Mujib Saroji.

For the first charge, Ng is accused of trafficking methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy pills) weighing 3.6kg at a house in No. 42, Jalan Bidara 2, Taman Suria, here, at 1.30pm on Feb 16.

For the second charge, he is accused of trafficking nimetazepam (Eramin 5), weighing about 3.24kg, at the same location, date and time.

For the third and fourth charges, Ng is accused of trafficking methylenedioxymethamphetamine (ecstasy powder) weighing 33.818kg and ketamine weighing 2.52kg at the same location, time and date.

The charges, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, are punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same act. Deputy public prosecutor Siti Nurfara Fazilun Izylin Ahmad proposed that the court deny bail for the accused, who was unrepresented, and requested for mention of case on May 3 pending a chemistry report.

Mujib allowed the application. No plea was recorded from the accused.

It was reported that police arrested a drug trafficker during a raid on a house here and seized drugs worth RM2.16 million.
