JOHOR BAHRU: The High Court here ordered an 'influencer', Noorazira Pissal also known as Eira Aziera to pay RM100,000 in damages as well as RM30,000 in legal cost to Suharnizan Md Sidek who was a victim of bodyshaming.
The bodyshaming incident on social media happened in August 2020.
Suharnizan's lawyer Mohd Rasheed Hassan said judicial commissioner Datuk Seri Shamsulbahri Ibrahim made the decision online in his client's legal suit against Eira Aziera on May 30.
He said the decision was reached after a full trial was conducted online for five days from Oct 24 to 28 last year.
"The court also ordered Noorazira to publish a clear and unconditional apology on all her social media accounts and the apology must remain published for six months from the date of posting.
"Apart from that, the court decided that Suharnizan, through her legal representation, had succesfully proven her claims, after all the required elements were fulfilled," he said in a statement today.
On Oct 13, 2020, Suharnizan filed a RM2 million lawsuit against Noorazira, 39, at the Johor Bahru High Court, claiming the latter had insulted her physical appearance.
Commenting further, Mohd Rasheed hoped the suit would serve as a lesson to all parties not to simply make statements on social media.
