GEORGE TOWN: An object, believed to be a human skeleton, was found inside a drain in Jalan Maklom here yesterday.

Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong said the skeleton was found by a 22-year-old man, who then alerted his employer to it.

"The man, who works as an assistant lorry driver, was smoking a cigarette at the scene when he made the discovery.

"He stumbled upon the object, believed to be a human skeleton, inside a hole in the uncovered drain before alerting his employer," he said.

According to him, the state police headquarters' Forensic team and K9 Unit were deployed to the scene.

"The object was sent to the Penang Hospital's Forensic Department. Police are looking at the footage from the CCTV at the scene," he added.

The case has been classified as sudden death until the post mortem result has been obtained.

Soffian urged those with information to contact any of the nearest police stations.
