TUARAN: Five people in Kampung Termenung were arrested for allegedly selling firecrackers without permits last night.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Hamizi Halim said the raid at 9.50pm was conducted by a team from its Criminal Investigation Department.

He said during the incident, police had identified themselves to one of the suspects at an unnumbered house.

"Following the raid, the police found four more men aged between 19 and 37 in the living room who were busy choosing and buying firecrackers meant for wholesale.

"Further checks found that the occupant is a supplier to four wholesalers who are reselling these items in the district," he said during a press conference.

Police seized firecrackers of various types worth RM5,000.

Hamizi added the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967.

"The public is advised to abide by all regulations set by the government and not to conduct any business without a valid permit or sell prohibited goods either openly or privately.
