SERIAN: A taxi driver was injured and lost his taxi when his two passengers, believed to be Indonesians, drove off with his vehicle after hitting him on his head.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Aswandy Anis said the incident was reported at about 5.15pm on Tuesday by passersby who found the 62-year-old taxi driver by the roadside in Kampung Belimbing.

"According to the victim, he picked up the two passengers from Kuching Sentral. They wanted to go to Gedong and Balai Ringin.

"Upon reaching Kampung Belimbing, the suspects told the victim to stop by the roadside. They then hit him on his head. The taxi driver, however, managed to escape," he said in a statement.

Aswandy said the victim was sent to the Serian Hospital for treatment.

He added the police had launched a manhunt codenamed "Ops Kesan" for the two suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery.
