BUKIT MERTAJAM: The special aide of a state assemblyman and his brother have been detained by police for lodging a false report, alleging that they had been robbed of RM60,000 recently.

Sources said the special aide, in his 30s, and his brother had lodged the report, claiming that they had been robbed by an unknown person, on a motorcycle, at a petrol station near Permatang Rawa here on Sept 12.

"At that time, the siblings claimed to have stopped at the petrol station before they were approached by the motorcyclist who broke into their car and took off with the bag containing the money."

Following the incident, the special aide lodged a police report.

"However, investigators found discrepancies in the statements. As such, they have been detained by police yesterday for further probe," the source said.

The source also said the special aide had lodged a false report to prevent him from paying a third party who had allegedly threatened to expose his brother's indecent photos.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad confirmed the incident and said police were still probing into the case.

The case is investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging false police report, which carries maximum six months' jail or maximum RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.
