KUALA LUMPUR: A former company director was today hauled to the Sessions Court over criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM200,000.

Intan Safina Yusof, 39, who was dressed in a pink long sleeve T-shirt with a matching scarf pleaded not guilty to the offence.

According to the charge sheet, Intan, as one of the directors of Arena Abadi Sdn Bhd had committed criminal breach of trust (CBT) by transferring the RM200,000 entrusted to her from the company's account into her personal account.

She was alleged to have then used the money for her personal expenses.

The offence was allegedly committed along Jalan Tun Sambantan 3, Brickfields, here, between Jan 25, 2019 and Feb 28, the same year.

She faces a jail term of not less than two years and not more than 20 years and with whipping and also a fine under Section 409 of the Penal Code, if convicted.

Intan Safina is the sister of entrepreneur Datin Vivy Sofinas Yusof or Vivy Yusof, as she is more commonly known as.

Deputy public prosecutor Noorhani Muhammed Ayub suggested RM50,000 bail.

In pleading for a lower bail, Intan's counsel Diar Isda Yazmin Ismail said her client was now jobless since the alleged incident.

"She is now a housewife and her husband works in the tourism sector which was badly affected due to the Covid-19.

"The bailor can only afford to pay RM20,000," the lawyer said.

Judge Datin Sabariah Othman then allowed RM30,000 bail with one surety and for the accused to surrender her passport to the court until disposal of the case.

Intan's case will come up for mention on Aug 24.

The mother of four broke into tears as soon as the proceedings ended.

Her family members including her father-in law who is her bailor were seen comforting and hugging her.
