KUALA LUMPUR: Army pathologist Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran and five others who were sentenced to death for killing deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais in 2016 filed an appeal against their conviction today.

The six filed a notice of appeal through their lawyers at the Criminal High Court Registry here, this morning.

According to the notice, they are appealing against the ruling made by High Court judge Datuk Azman Abdullah on their conviction and sentence on July 10.

The other five who also filed the notice were R. Dinishwaran, 26; A.K Thinesh Kumar, 25; M. Vishwanath, 28; S. Nimalan 25; and S. Ravi Chandaran, 47.

Lawyer Datuk N. Sivananthan represented Kunaseegaran, while Datuk Sheelan Arjunan represented the five.

Last Friday, the six accused of murdering Morais were sentenced to the gallows after the court found that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case against them.

A total of 70 prosecution witnesses and 14 defence witnesses, including all the accused, testified in the trial which started on April 6, 2016.

All the accused were ordered to enter their defence on Nov 17, 2017.

Morais was reported missing on Sept 4, 2015 and the last time he was seen was when he was leaving his house at the Menara Duta condominium, here, to go to work in Putrajaya.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that Morais was grabbed by several men when he emerged from his car to inspect the damage following a fender bender along Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul; and was taken to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya, the same day.

On Sept 16, the same year, Morais' body was found in an oil drum filled with cement in Subang Jaya, Selangor, after one of the seven suspects in the case brought the police to the location at Taman Perumahan USJ 1, Persiaran Subang Mewah.
